What is considered the leading social networking software?

So far, in my searches nothing really stands out but I'm assuming there is a "grand leader" out there. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm looking for great features for a new site I'm launching- innovative, video sharing, etc. Maybe youtube compatible even. Suggestions?

What is considered the leading social networking software?
MSN, MySpace, Orkut and Youtube are greatest networking share nowadays.

You can try to do something like that if you want.

If I start building a social networking site, who do I get to help me and where do I find them?

I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to these things. I want to start a site similar to Facebook and Myspace. No I'm not going to tell you what it is. I can build a rough draft of the site, but need someone to fine tune some of the minor details for me. Thanx for your help

Ask your IT guy to block said sites from your access. I actually have had users ask me that very thing, and I block access as they request. In some cases it's their managers asking though.

Is this a form of Social Networking?

yes...it is, but not in the repititious fashon such as message boards. A fresh perspective is given and that makes the idea..that much better.

All we're doing is really reading text. I don't know if you can really call that social networking. I guess we are sharing ideas.

the only thing I don't like is worrying about predators. But I have my profiles on private.

What do you hate about social networking (myspace, facebook, etc)?
I don't hate the networking sites, as i think they are a good way for people to get back in touch with friends. However, I don't have time for those that use the sites to add numerous ammounts of 'friends', just to make them look popular! xx

How can I create a social networking website such as myspace? What would be the most cost-efficient way?

My space is free so is Yahoo 360. They are both blog spaces that allow you to add your friends, family and anyone you like. You already have a Yahoo 360, all you need to do is go to this page and start your page. I prefer the Yahoo 360 format.

ps. price does not matter

How do i make a social networking website??? please help?
PHP, mySQL, javascript, CSS. You'll need to learn them all very very well. You can start with the site below, but you're going to need to buy some books and start reading up. And don't skip anything about security or optimizing queries. You will need to be an expert on both of those. For development, you don't need any specific software but I would say you should check out Dreamweaver, but any text editor will work. The only thing you'll need to get is a host for your site. Check out Yahoo hosting. That's what I use and it's great. Good luck.

Bebo? Myspace? Facebook? Kids ones like matmice and stardoll? MSN??? Any others?

facebook has more than 3 million user and its more fun than myspace
Reply:I have to say Myspace as well

You have a lot more freedom to do what you want with your profile you can change absolutely everything on your profile if you wanted

Bebo is more constricting and really only lets you change the background and your video

But as you said Bebo is really, really simple, very user friendly

Myspace might take a while to get used to for a beginner
Reply:it definitely has to be myspace, they have the largest network, and you can customize your profile to look just about however you want

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive?? Why or why not??

yes,

there a great way to keep in touch with old friends or people in your past or present. i have a few people on mine from like kindergarten and its just fun to see how people turn out. so yes im addicted.

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive?? Why or why not??
Well, I know some people people are addicted to sites like myLot:

http://www.mylot.com/?ref=Astralking

because after all the more they "socialize", the more money they make. The page is something like a cross between yahoo answers %26amp; myspace. Too bad yahoo answers lets you only earn points. But well, it is addictive just the same.

That said, I think every social networking site that appeals to the hunter-gatherer part of the male instinct (but I know for sure some women have that instinct, too), has a heightened potential to be addictive. The main question here is: where does the addiction start? I mean: When do you begin to realize, that you are addicted? Is it the day when your friends or family members point out to you, that you spend more time socializing on myspace (for example) than participating in real life activites?

I think this is a very good, but also a very difficult question to answer, because it concerns almost every computer-savvy person with a moderately fast internet connection. I also have a strong feeling that social networking sites will be much more dominant in the future than they are today.
Reply:It can if you allow it to, just like anything else. I have a MySpace page, after I swore I never would. I check it once a day, and leave it at that. It might help that I'm a little bit older than the crowd that uses it the most, but it's really a conscious decision that you're making, if you sit for so long on one page, or in front of the PC for a long time.
Reply:Myspace is very easy to use and its a great way to socialize with friends when not on the phone, its great for meeting new people. Facebook can be a bit confusing with all those add-ons, but it depends really for what you want it..

Anyways, both are great. (But myspace is better :P)
Reply:They can be addicting, if you are on them to much. A person can become addicted to anything. I don't have a myspace, but I do have facebook, and I think it's great. Lot's of people I know have it.

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive??? Why or why not???

I do. I thin this way because I used to be an addict lol. I guess it's because you're caught up in the hype around the site. All your friends begin to join and that just motivates you even more to go on it daily. After a while, after all the hype dies down, you slowly go on it less and less.

Do you think that social networking sites like myspace and facebook are addictive??? Why or why not???
It depends on who you are. I personally spend a lot of time on MySpace because I am very interested in web design and like expressing myself by creating layouts and things like that. I also use Facebook because I enjoy talking to people that I wouldn't usually talk to which is what you can do on Facebook. But many people don't find them as entertaining as me because and spend very little time on those kind of sites.
Reply:Depends on the person. Personally I am addicted to both of them. Actually I have both of them opened in windows as I type this answer. I use them both for networking more than friends. I find people who need websites built, graphics, and other services that I offer.
Reply:It can be when there's nothing to do. But when I'm busy, Facebook is the last thing on my mind. When people post pictures sometimes you just spend a couple of hours looking at them reminiscing about fun times or something.
Reply:depends.

yes because you speak to friends

Why do people like social networking sites so much?

Is it insecurity or just the need to communicate? Or is there really a need at all?

Why do people like social networking sites so much?
Perhaps it is because the cyber world has opened up a means to communicate in a way that otherwise shy people can't do on a one-to-one, face-to-face basis? There is a difference in taking the time to think and typing out the words in the seclusion of your computer room than having to respond in the "flesh". Insecurity? Sure! Yet the need to communicate still exists. We'd better communicate! No man/woman is an island. Lack of communication is the world's greatest problem because if there is no communication, there can be no understanding whatever the means of communication. Great question!

It was *the* original social networking site. MySpace copied the idea and it became incredibly popular, unfortunately for Friendster.

Friendster has an official profile viewer -- you can tell who has looked at your profile and it's legit. That's the main thing that sets it apart from all the other sites. You also have top friends, write blogs, post photo albums, have groups, post bulletins, design your own profile, see when your friends updated their profiles... it's really pretty good. It's incredibly popular in Asia.

Mine is MySpace

What is your favorite social networking?, what you go to?
this site!

Where is all this social networking heading and what is the future?

I did a paper on networking in 11th grade civics class. Get ready for this!

Networking starts as a network of people who support someone as thier US Representative (Congressperson) in a fundraising effort for campaign funds. Eventually it deteriorates into a quid pro quo for services. My dad owns the largest floral company in the world, and he fell victim to a network he joined initially to donate money to an honest congressman. the congressman usually has nothing to do with it. My dad wanted new carpeting in all 730 of his stores. In exchange, he traded 16 plants per store that typically sell for 100.00 each. the carpeting he got looked nice, but began to disintergrate as soon as people began to walk on it. There was no pad. It turned out to be the kind of prop carpet that's used in sales displays, and thown out when the display changes. Networking is inequitable. No matter what you barter, there is no record of sales which means no warranty, gaurantee, or way of challenging your bad end of the deal but you can't do anything about the inequity, because there is no record of the sales, meaning no taxes were paid, and whether you know it or not, you've become a criminal.

Networks usually prosper in communities of 250,000 people or less. When young professional people like physicians, attorneys, accountants, real estate types, anyone with a lisence, comes to town, they recieve a basket of fruit and bakery goodies from a fund used precisly for deception. then 2 or 3 senior network mmbers visit the new professional's wife at home to " welcome them ". Since 20somethings have small children, childcare is a concern that prompts everyones attention. as of 2007, childcare at the reputable city childcare centers run about 115.00 per child, per week.

The women are then offered free childcare if thier husbands would agree to trade a few simple tasks in exchange. Like 3 uncontested divorces, 5 bankruptcies, a few simple DUIs, etc. Initially, the husbands -or in fewer cases, the wife - think thier spouse has struck a great deal. then when they put thier first obligatory case through the judicial mill, do they finally realize they are committing a serious crime: conspirarcy.

Then the unspoken extortion begins. Eventually the drs wives get approached: 4 appendectomies, 2 tonselectomies, 5 abortions, some mole removals, etc. but free childcare. eventually a core network person will want access to someone's medical records, as a network function. who is requesting this and why is always unclear. they feel trapped as they know that not documenting or billing for services is against the law. Unspoken extortion.

Eventually, core members will notice they can use blackmail to pre-determine the outcome of trials. Afterall, they probably have a judge in thier network, some scared young attorneys who don't want to see the bright futures flush right in front of them when they are 27 years old with 2 little ones.

Do you have any idea where networking can lead?

Call the consumer report's 800 number, and they will tell you even more.

Where is all this social networking heading and what is the future?
As far as communication between people goes, no matter how small cell phones get and no matter how many people join myspace it all comes down to who wants to talk to who. No matter how advanced technology becomes if someone doesn't want to socialize or network with someone else they'll just not answer their phone or delete the email. As far as the future goes, no one has exact proof of how it began or more importantly how it is going to end. We as human beings don't have much time on the planet, try to worry and think about other things.

Are there any safe social networking websites for just kids?

I suggest club penguin.com. It was really fun. I am almost and I still play it. FIrst you sign up and you get a penguin, then you play games and chat, and so much more. You can set your childs account so that they can only say the selected words, or so that can actually talk. But if they get the account where they talk, if they swear or start releasing information about themselves their account will be terminated. You also get an iglo as a home and you can have pets. There are two versions of the game. Free or Membership. I have a free account and think it is just as fun. The membership just allows you to purchase items for you penguin with the coins you earn from games. Plus if your child's penguin becomes a secret agent they can complete missions to help find "puffles" (the pets), and so much more. I hope this helped. You should definetly check it out.

Are there any safe social networking websites for just kids?
If it is for P2P chatting then there is never anything 100% safe cos an adult can always sign up and pose as a child. Even the sites that claim to be safe could still have parents posing as children. Its a sad world. Your best bet would be to use something like MSN and only allow people you know personally to add to your kids account.
