what are their positive and negatives effect given the Indian cultural context?. Dont you think that some sites like orkut are too open leading to privacy issues? Some defamatory communities have come up leading to possible social unrest. can u suggest some safeguards

Well Orkut might have specialized indian communities, and lastly it is you who decides what is shown there or not. Sharing personal information on the site is not mandatory. You could even set up completely false data and no one would know.





I do believe you can also make your orkut profile private. That means only people you invite to your friends or who are in your own community, can look at your photos, videos and detailed personal information, much like myspace. I hope this helps.

Reply:I would say that it is a total wastage of your time. all the advertisements definitely sounds interesting and appealing, but you will be wasting a lot of time, unless of course, you have nothing better to do.
